Things to Inspect After an Auto Body Repair

After you’ve been in a car accident, you should take your car to an auto body repair shop to make sure it’s repaired correctly, safely, and completely. Once your car is ready, use this checklist to inspect your vehicle and confirm that the repairs were done correctly. If you notice any errors, problems, or inconsistencies, speak with the auto collision repairman, or a customer service representative.

Exterior of the Car

Walk all the way around the outside of the car and inspect it top to bottom. Be sure to open all of the doors as well as the hood and trunk. If you have electric windows, doors, sunroof, or more, make sure they operate correctly.

Paint and Body

Make sure the difference between the existing paint and new paint isn’t shockingly noticeable. The finish doesn’t need to match. Check the body of your car for debris, such as dust or hair. Check the car’s body for dents, chipped paint, paint color mismatches, and panel gaps.

Interior of the Car

Make sure all of the interior components of the car are lined up correctly. Look for loose parts like nuts or washers and ask about them. Verify that the windows, mats, and upholstery are clean and vacuumed and no trash was left behind.

Engine, Steering Wheel, and Ride

Start the engine and verify no warning lights are on. Make sure all of the lights are working, including turn signals. Turn on the windshield wipers and test the AC and heater. Make sure the radio and speakers work correctly. Take the car for a test drive and confirm the steering wheel works correctly and the brakes are aligned.
